Crewe & Nantwich RUFC coach Geoff Crawford believes his side has the easier run-in as a three-horse race for the title nears its climax.
And he feels his third-placed team will have the edge to land the crown if they can beat second-placed Ruskin Park on Saturday.
Crewe & Nantwich produced a powerful display last week to defeat South Lancashire & Cheshire 2 leaders Oswestry 18-3.
It moved Crewe to within two points of Oswestry and just one behind Ruskin Park, although the Vagrants side has played a game more.
Crawford told Nantwichnews: “Saturday’s game was crucial to our drive to be promoted for the second time in two years.
“The victory was built on a fierce defence by the pack which stopped Oswestry in their tracks. The backs did their bit running in three tries.
“As always the forwards won the game the backs decided by how much.
“This leaves the league wide open with a three-way race for promotion.
“We may be third at the moment but the momentum is with us especially if we beat Ruskin. Of the three sides we have the easier run in and Ruskin and Oswestry have to play each other.”
Crewe & Nantwich have won 10 out of 10 home games this season, the best in the league.
But Ruskin Park will be a tough nut to crack as they have the most miserly defence, conceding just 203 points in 19 matches.
