College students from Nantwich made a close inspection of a Premier League football pitch as part of their diploma course.

The Reaseheath horticulture students were given a guided tour of Stoke City’s new multi-million pound training ground and 28,400 capacity Britannia Stadium.

They were learning about maintenance requirements of the club’s £750,000 artificial pitch and about the renovation and preparation of the more traditional grass pitches.

Head groundsman Andy Jackson described the club’s approach to sports turf maintenance.

The group also toured the groundsman’s workshop and visited the new training building where they saw first team players Danny Higginbotham, Rory Delap and Cameron Jerome.

They then met up with former Reaseheath Sports Turf student Rob Aked at the Britannia Stadium, where he is now assistant groundsman.

Reaseheath head greenkeeper James Grundy: “This was a superb chance for our students to hear first hand about the levels of passion, commitment and pride that Andy and his team work to in an effort to achieve the highest of professional standards.

“These are the results that everyone sees and appreciates each week on Match of the Day.

“Andy is an example of someone who, through hard work and dedication, has risen from the bottom rung of the career ladder to become a professional at the top of his trade.”

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
