Scores of fans turned up to watch the South Cheshire George Formby Ukulele Society’s Christmas Concert in Wistaston Memorial Hall.

The concert in front of 150 people included group, duet and solo ukulele performances.

It featured well-known George Formby songs such as ‘Chinese Laundry Blues’ and ‘When I’m Cleaning Windows’, as well as Christmas songs and carols such as Slade’s ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’, Bing Crosby’s ‘White Christmas’ and ‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’.

Performers came from all over Cheshire and counties beyond and many were dressed in a Christmas hat or full Santa outfit.

Jonathan Baddeley was Master of Ceremonies on the night.

Society founder Brian Edge said: “I would like to thank everyone for supporting this event and for making it such a great success.

“I encourage anyone to attend one of our concerts or rehearsal sessions which take place throughout the year.

“You will be made to feel most welcome. Feel free to bring a friend along with you; you are sure to have a pleasant surprise.”

The society was founded in 1994 and performs at Wistaston Memorial Hall on the fourth Friday of every month.

There are no membership fees to pay to attend a concert and the entrance fee is 50p to cover the cost of rent and refreshments.

The next concert takes place on Friday January 27, starting at 7.40pm.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
