The family of a man killed in a road traffic collision in Nantwich have paid tribute to him.

Michael Betts (pictured), 74, was involved in an accident on Middlewich Road, close to Alvaston Hall Hotel, early on Saturday morning (December 17).

He was walking along the A530 towards Nantwich when he was in collision with a Mercedes Sprinter van travelling in the opposite direction.

A spokesman for his family said today: “Michael was the long term partner of Cynthia and will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.

“Michael was a keen cyclist and walker and was regularly seen in Nantwich market where he helped Cynthia in the running of her stall.”

Police are calling for witnesses who may have seen the accident to come forward.

It’s believed the van was overtaking another vehicle at the time of the collision.

A 21-year-old man from the Nantwich area was arrested at the scene and questioned on on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact Sergeant Carl Bailey at Eastern Traffic Unit on 101 quoting incident 322 of 17th December.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
