Crewe & Nantwich RUFC scrum - under 16s win Cheshire Shield, beat Walsall

Crewe & Nantwich RUFC moved into second place in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Two after beating leaders Douglas 39-23 at the Vagrants.

It was a fine win for the 1st team bouncing back from their 22-8 defeat at Sefton. They are now just two points behind new front-runners Oswestry.

But it the Isle of Man team which raced into an early 15-0 lead with two tries and a penalty and conversion.

Crewe hit back, however, and were soon on level pegging capitalising on weak defence, and they then added two tries late in the first period to go in 29-15 in front at the break.

Dougles touched down for a third try but the hosts put the game to bed and they bagged a converted try and a penalty to emphasise their superiority towards the end.

Meanwhile, the 2nds were well beaten on the road at Anselmians 2nds, going down 44-7 on the road in the University of Salford NWL Division 2 South. The 2nds remain in sixth position.

The 3rd team also lost on the road, 18-5 to Trafford MV in University of Salford NWL Division 4 South.
