A surprise from Lapland arrived through the letterbox at the home of one lucky six-year-old from Nantwich.

Sasha Medovnikov, from Stapeley, received a personalised letter from Santa Claus, thanks to a campaign by Railway Children of Sandbach.

The charity is bringing the magic of Christmas alive with a fundraising idea which aims to send hundreds of letters from Father Christmas to children around the country.

For a £3 donation, youngsters will receive a personalised letter from the ‘North Pole’ delivered to their door.

The Railway Children helps more than 25,000 vulnerable children every year, fighting for those living on the streets.

A gift of £10 can provide a night’s basic supply of food, clothing and toiletries for a child arriving at a runaway refuge in the UK.

Helen Shepard, Head of the Elf Mail campaign at Railway Children, said: “The letters will bring a smile to children around the country and we also hope to bring the season of goodwill to children living on the streets this Christmas.

“It’s a time when everyone should be experiencing love and laughter, not danger and despair.

“By supporting this campaign, mums and dads will be doing something magical for their own children and others less fortunate.”

A delighted Sasha, a pupil at Pear Tree Primary School, said: “I wrote my letter to Santa as early as I could because I know he will be busy responding to lots of children all over the world.

“I’ve been trying extra hard to be good and my Christmas wish is that Santa leaves me a Sylvanian Family toy in my stocking.”

Parents can contact Santa Claus and order a letter from www.elfmail.org.uk or call 01270 757596.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
