Carers of dementia sufferers in Crewe and Nantwich are celebrating the first year of a new help scheme.

DemenShare.com was launched to help people with dementia and their carers to meet online and share experiences.

The site was launched by Cheshire East Council, with Central and Eastern Cheshire PCT, Age UK Cheshire and web developer Opportunity Links.

It also offers users information on local support and services available.

Cllr Roland Domleo, Cabinet member with responsibility for adult services, said: “Many users prefer to remain anonymous and create their own usernames but we know there are success stories.

“We have seen examples of users asking for help, whether it be a relative with an eating problem or someone simply suspecting a family member has the condition.

“And thanks to the advice of fellow users and site managers, these problems have been addressed.”

There are 360 registered users in Cheshire, and there have been more than 6,000 visits and 3,900 unique visitors in 12 months.

It was also shortlisted for an International Dementia Excellence Award in the ‘Design Innovation’ category.

Diane Christopherson, of Age UK Cheshire will be speaking about the site at a talk on Wednesday November 23 at Nantwich Health Centre, off Beam Street, time to be confirmed.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
