Reaseheath College has scooped a major industry award in the face of competition from multi-national businesses.
The Nantwich college’s contribution towards a degree level qualification in dairy technology was recognised at the Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD) Food Industry Awards in London.
Representatives from the college’s food manufacturing department, from partner Dairy UK and from the National Skills Academy for Food and Drink jointly received the John Sainsbury Learning and Development Award.
Other entries in the category came from Morrisons, Tesco International and The Co-operative.
The award was in recognition of Project Eden. Reaseheath has worked with six blue chip dairy companies in creating a European-recognised Foundation Degree in Dairy Technology to train the next generation of dairy technologists.
Reaseheath Vice Principal Dave Kynaston, who attended the ceremony, said: “We were absolutely delighted to win, particularly against such stiff opposition from major players. The Eden project was showcased as a groundbreaking initiative in the commercial world of learning and development.”
The Eden International Dairy Academy and the Food Innovation Centre, have been the result of a £7.2 million investment into the college’s food department.
IGD Chief Executive Joanne Denney-Finch said: “This year’s awards attracted the highest level of entries both in terms of quantity and quality.”
