Nantwich has scooped the gold medal in the North West in Bloom 2011 awards.

It means Nantwich will go forward to compete in the national awards in the town category early next year.

Members of Nantwich in Bloom committee celebrated their success after the awards were announced on Thursday at a ceremony in Southport. They received the Preston Silver Dish.

Mayor of Nantwich Cllr Arthur Moran paid tribute to Doug Butterill and his team.

He said: “It’s a fantastic achievement to win this award, congratulations must go to everyone involved.

“Thanks must go to Doug and his team for putting in all the hard work and making Nantwich a blooming nice town!”

Other winners in the awards included Richmond Village Nantwich, which won gold medal in the best residential home category.

Audlem won a silver gilt medal in the best large village award, and Wistaston won silver in the best town class.

And a special award was made to Connie Jones, from Nantwich in Bloom, who is stepping down in her role as secretary.

Connie has been involved in the competition since its inception in the 1960s, and will continue to support it.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
