Greg Bailey

Two brothers who attacked a man while on a night out in Nantwich are now behind bars.

Gregory Bailey, 23, and Jed Bailey, 21, of Welshman′s Lane, Nantwich, launched a vicious attack on a 24-year-old Crewe man, which left him with a bleed on the brain and a fractured jaw in two places.

They pleaded guilty and were sentenced at Chester Crown Court to two years each.

Jed Bailey will serve his sentence at a young offender’s institute.

The attack happened on a night out drinking in Nantwich town centre at around 1.30am on Saturday February 12.

The victim was at Pizza Parlour when Greg Bailey approached him shouting, swearing and acting aggressively.

Another man approached and he ran away from the group along Beam Street to the junction of Pepper Street.

Once at the junction he could not recall anything and woke up lying on the floor unable to talk.

Witnesses say he had been attacked by the two brothers before falling to the floor and hitting his head on the kerb.

The Bailey brothers and two of their friends ran off, leaving him unconscious in the road.

He was taken to Leighton Hospital with a fractured jaw in two places and a bleed on his brain. He was transferred to The University Hospital of North Staffordshire for specialist treatment where he stayed for nearly two weeks.

A week later he had a further operation to remove a blood clot on his brain.

Det Con Michael Rushton said: “As the victim suffered a brain injury he will have to continue out patient appointments. The bleed has stabilised.

“He says he is suffering from memory loss, and there is a noted difference in his moods and behaviour.

“This was a brutal attack meted out on another pub goer because of a minor altercation earlier in the night. The injuries and the lasting damage to the victim are lasting and have put him and his family though a very traumatic time.

“Alcohol related anti-social behaviour is an issue for most towns and cities, and police continue to crackdown on the issues that result in violent incidents.

“I hope the Bailey brothers have time in prison to reflect on the affect their behaviour has had on not just a one person, but an entire family.”

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
