A village near Nantwich has taken on the very first transfer of services from Cheshire East Council.

A series of transfers are planned as part of Cheshire East’s local service project, and Audlem Parish Council is one of the first to officially take control of a village service, opening up a toilet block to the public.

Cheshire East has been in negotiations with a number of town and parish councils, including Nantwich, over the potential transfer of assets and services.

April 2012 is the date for all agreed transfers, but successful talks with Audlem Parish Council meant toilets could be handed over earlier.

Cllr Rachel Bailey, Cabinet member with responsibility for safer and stronger communities and ward member for Audlem, said: “This represents the very first transfer of assets from Cheshire East Council to a local parish council.

“It is in keeping with our policy to transfer and devolve services and functions to towns and parishes as part of the council’s commitment to localism.

“The maintenance and running of the toilets, which have been newly refurbished, is now in the hands of local people, who are best placed to decide how local services should be managed.”

Audlem Parish Council chairman Kate Down said: “This is a really important step for Audlem to have the public toilets available for use, as we know they have been traditionally well used.”

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
