A former health clinic in Nantwich could be turned into a Marks and Spencer food store, sources suggested today.

It’s believed the retail giant has looked at the empty building (pictured), behind the library on Beam Street, as a possible location.

M&S officials have told Nantwichnews today they cannot “confirm” the Nantwich reports but said they were looking at potential new store locations.

The former clinic, now boarded up and fenced off, was earmarked for retail development at the recent public exhibition on the future of Nantwich held last month.

Mayor of Nantwich Cllr Arthur Moran said: “There are certainly reports on the grapevine that Marks and Spencer is looking to open an outlet there.

“It’s a strong rumour and if it turns out to be true, it would very welcome.

“Having an M&S in Nantwich would be a great addition to the town, and bringing this building back into use would be very welcome.”

It’s believed Marks and Spencer are looking to open around 14 new food outlets around the country.

The nearest one to Nantwich is at Grand Junction Retail Park in Crewe.

A spokeswoman for M&S said: “We are always looking at potential new store locations, but currently do not have anything that we can confirm in Nantwich.”

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
