A week-long series of events to celebrate 100 years of the Lyceum Theatre in Crewe culminated in a stunning Gala performance last night (September 10).

“The atmosphere in the crowd was one of excitement and expectation for the forthcoming production. It was a pleasure to see a packed theatre on what proved to be a very entertaining evening.
Cllr Roger West, Mayor of Cheshire East, opened the show with a speech and encouraged the audience to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to the Lyceum.
The show was a celebration of the history of theatre production and the performances that have taken part at ‘The Lyceum’.
It was brilliantly put together by a number of local companies, with Acton Amateur Operatices Society starting off with a variety of old music hall numbers, which the audience joined in with whole heartedly.
Yvonne’s School of Dancing demonstrated different dancing styles that have been popular in music and entertainment including an incredible tap routine, in the style of Michael Jackson and Jersey Boys.
The audience was then treated to a classic panto moment complete with Dame, jokes and of course custard pies.
Crewe Amateur Musical Society then took to the stage stunning the crowd into silence with classics from shows such as Jesus Christ Superstar, Oliver, and Sweet Charity.
The music continued with amazing performances of songs from the younger members of these local companies.
It was a great evening, and proves that acting, dancing and singing talent is alive and well in the Crewe and Nantwich area.
It would be impossible to pick just one moment from the show to single out.
Well done to everyone involved, you should all be proud of what you achieved, particularly the stage crew who must have worked incredibly hard with such a huge cast.
After the performance, the audience was treated to a light show which was projected onto the outside of the building.
The memorable short ‘film of lights’ detailed the history of the Lyceum – from the original building, the devastating fire and the rebuild which followed to the stars and circus animals which have performed there.
It was an amazing sight, and one that I think everyone present will remember for a long time.
